  • Measure, cut cable
  • Strip ends
  • Straighten leads
  • First cut
  • Seat cable
  • Second cut
  • Seat cable
  • Final trim (if necessary)
  • Firmly seat cable in the center of the rj45 connector
  • Crimp extremely firm without moving cable

  • Quality/rating of tools/supplies
  • Stripping cable
  • Handling/storing cable, especially during installation


Crossover Cables


Common Mistakes

  • Jacket issues, uneven/short contacts, using inferior or incorrect supplies, damaging leads, not testing
  • Cutting cable too short (wont reach, easily snagged)
  • Cutting cable too long (messy, prone to damage, signal loss)
  • Interference

Testing

  • Real testing, with cable tester, ping (options, packet sizes)
